If you have followed our previous lessons Introduction to Corelx4 Graphics Design Software and Detail Tutorial on Corelx4 Graphics Design Software successfully, then you are now set to create Graphics Design with CorelDrawx4.

Creating New Drawings to Create Graphics Design

To create new drawings do one of the following:

Click File, New, or

Click the New graphic icon on the Standard tool bar, or

Press Ctrl +N (Ctrl + N means pressing Ctrl and N same time)

CorelDraw displays a new page, on which you can now create Graphics Design using the CorelDraw tools and features then remember saving your file.

Adjusting your Page Layout, Size and Orientation when you Create Graphics Design

When you create a new drawing on CorelDraw. CorelDraw display a blank page at the center of the screen, by default the page setup is Letter. You can change the page setup, as well as add more page to your drawing and change the page orientation as well. 

Setting Your Page Size/Orientation;

To change you page size, do the following:

Click Layout, Page Setup CorelDraw displays the page Option dialog box

Choose a preset paper size from the Paper list box (e.g A4)

Enable the Landscape or Portrait button to change the page orientation.
Click Ok

Adding page(s) to your drawings

To add page(s) to your drawing

Click Layout, Insert Page

Type the number of pages you want to add in the insert Page dialog box

Click Before or After to specify where you want to add the page(s).

Click Ok.

To delete page;

Click Layout, Delete Page.

Type the number of the page you want to delete in the delete page dialog box.

Click Ok

Once you Create Graphics Design on your page, you now need to store them in the computer storage system. The process of storing your graphics design for further use or edition is referred to as save.

To save your Graphics Designs do one of the following:

Click on File, Save or

Click the save icon on the standard tool bar or

Press ctrl+s,

CorelDraw display the Save Drawing dialog box in which you choose the folder to save into and type in a name for your file and press enter when finished to save your file. See pic.

Saving Changes to your Graphics Design

Once you have saved for file for the first time, it is important to save any further changes made thereafter if you wish to keep such changes, to save such changes;

Click file, Save or Press Ctrl + S

Note that nothing will be displayed this time but the changes will be saved since you are still saving to that same file name.

Saving to another file name

You may wish to save your file with another name or save into another directory or folder, may be into a diskette.

To do this,

Click File, Saves As, the save dialog box will be displayed again to allow you change the directory/filename as well, follow the same steps as in when saving the first time to complete the process.

(Note: drawing, Graphics Design or file are being used interchangeably here; they both refers to your work or designs)

Opening a Drawing

To open a drawing, do one of the following;

Click the file menu, then click open,

Or Click the open icon on the standard tool bar or Press Ctrl+O,

CorelDraw will displays the open dialog box, which enables you to choose the directory or location of the file you wish to open and type in the filename, enable the preview button to see a preview of the file you want to open and okay it when ready. See pic. To open a recently opened drawing, click File, a list of four last opened files appears at the bottom of the menu, click on any of the files to open. Closing a Drawing. To close your file, click the file menu, click close or click on the close icon at the top right of the menu bar, if you haven’t save your file or the last changes you made, a dialog box will appears asking you to save changes before closing. Choose (yes) to save or if you do not want to save the changes, choose (no) or (cancel) to stop closing the file.

Closing a Drawing.

Closing CorelDraw: to close CorelDraw click on the file menu, click exit or click on the close icon on the upper right side of the CorelDraw X4 Screen.
