Five Quick Fix to solve Slow Windows PC problem before consulting a Tech

slow windows pcIt could be so frustrating when you need to deliver a job fast, and suddenly, your Windows PC starts working like a clogged wheel. Something has gone wrong and you are left with a slow windows Pc.

The next you do, you call in a technician and the best you can get is wait for at least half an hour before getting to deliver your job? And in some cases, you land yourself in that horrible situation where you have to wait on your busy tech for long hours.

To avoid this, I decided to take my future into my own hands; here I want to show you how. If you are determine to solve that reoccurring problem of slow windows pc that often makes you deliver jobs late, then read on.

Whereas you need a technician to help solve your pc problems, there is a lot you can do yourself before visiting a technician especially when it relates to a slow windows pc. The following are some easy tasks you can perform to make it faster if not completely but to allow you finish the job at hand.

 Quick fix 1: Doing a virus scan can help Solve Slow Windows PC problem

Major causes of slow Windows PC problems are virus attacks, so always try run a complete system scan whenever your notice that your Windows PC is performing below average.  Sometimes the installed antivirus becomes ineffective, this is so because the attacking virus is now immune to its power, uninstall and install another product of antivirus or upgrade to a newer version.

 Quick fix 2: Doing a disk cleanup may solve Slow Windows PC problem

Very many PC users don’t know this, and it makes windows PC go sluggish often, disk cleanup is necessary at least once in a month. Operating Systems and other software on a PC creates temporary files on the hard drive, each time they run. These files are stored in a hidden folder under the drive containing the operating system, when these files becomes too heavy, the system starts working slow.

To delete these files;

  1. Open my computer.
  2. Select the drive contain the operating.
  3. Right click your mouse, on the flyout choose properties.
  4. On the dialog box that appears, choose disk cleanup.
  5. Follow the process and remove the unwanted files.

Quick fix 3: Do a Disk Scan to correct Missing or Crosslink files.

slow windows pc 3If your PC is still slow, after disk cleanup, then you may have to scan the hand drive for errors, to do this, return to step 3 above

  1. On the dialog box that appears, click tools
  2. Click “Check now” under Error Checking
  3. On the Menu that Pops us, enable the two options and click Starts, windows will display a message informing you that disk scan will start the next time you start windows, restart the system and allow it to do a surface scan to correct possible errors.


Quick fix 4: Uninstalling some unwanted programs could solve Slow Windows PC problem

Windows PC could also be slow due to overload of programs installations taking up space and memory usage, so you may want to go through your programs installation and uninstall unwanted programs.

To do this; Open the Control Panel, Click on Programs and Features, to display a list of installed programs, locate the unwanted programs taking up space in the system and uninstall them. Be sure of what program you want to remove, because this action cannot be undone.


Quick fix 5:  Do a selective Startup by running Msconfig.exe

By default, windows operating system load a lot of software whenever it boots up, and each program it loads takes up space it its virtual memory and some of the programs are not needed all the time, thus you can actually do without some and call them up when need.

To achieve the above,

Type Msconfig.exe on the start menu and press enter

On the dialog box that appears click Startup to open the Startup Tab

Under the list of Startup Items, remove the checkmark from items you don’t want the system to load automatically whenever it boots and click okay, the system will restart to apply the new settings.
